ABOUT CLAY

Clay is a Paediatric Occupational Therapy Practice which was established in 2015 by Nicky Stirton  and Jessica Roux in Salt Rock KZN. We are passionate about our work in paediatrics with a special interest in early intervention and sensory integration. We consider function, independence and quality of life to be integral to therapy.

CLAY Occupational Therapy serves to empower children, parents and teachers with tools to overcome learning, social and personal barriers, reveal potential and release individual growth. We are passionate about early intervention and aim to help mould and develop your child, recognizing individuality and allowing them the best opportunity to flourish in their environment.

We work with children (birth to +/- 12 years old) with various barriers to learning including physical and cognitive disabilities, learning difficulties, genetic disorders, sensory processing disorder, ASD/autism. We service schools in the morning including Reddam Umhlanga, Eco Kids, Village kids and Bloom Centre. We are available for therapy in the afternoons from our premises at Eden Village.

As a team of Occupational Therapists, we serve to facilitate children to reach their full potential, in close collaboration with families and schools, teachers and parents.

WHAT WE DO

Therapeutic
assessment

We provide assessments and treatment of children of all ages and challenges. Our aim is to support children and their families reach their potential through education and therapy.

Assessments: A thorough history interview is done with parents prior to assessments to gain insight into the child’s presenting problems and parental concerns.

Therapy &
Treatment

We offer individual and group therapy sessions dependant on the child and family’s needs and means. Sessions range between 30 and 60 minutes and are usually held once or twice a week for a period of 6- 8 months after which a reassessment is conducted and recommendations are made.

We have special interests in the following fields:

  • Children presenting with sensory processing difficulties
  • Infants who are at risk due to prematurity or developmental delay
  • Children struggling with preschool / foundation phase learning within their academic environment
  • Children with conditions such as CP, ADHD and hyperactivity, genetic disorders and syndromes

teacher &
parent training

We see a need for education and training of parents and teachers and thus run workshops to address relevant topics. Please contact us should you be interested in more information about this.’

Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Clayot/ where we post information about home activities, interesting articles and useful links.

A culture of learning and keeping up with current knowledge and research is important to us and we thus regularly attend workshops and courses and are trained in Sensory Integration.

From the N2 Northbound - take the Salt Rock/ Umhlali turnoff and turn right over the bridge. Take a right turn after Sasol Garage and drive past Litchi Orchard and Sage restaurant on your left. When you get to a bend in the road, turn slightly right onto the tar road and drive straight for about 150 metres (parallel to the N2). Turn left into Eden Village, and we are situated on the left of the car park. Look for the signs to CLAY Occupational Therapy and Bloom School.
